Appraisal Associations

There are many national professional appraisal associations, and many more regional, state, or local. Some say there are too many and that appraisers should be like CPAs, with one main organization. This page contains links to the Web sites of some of the national associations.

The associations offer many benefits to appraisers, such as networking, education, and widely recognized appraisal designations (IFA, ASA).

All the Web sites have information on the associations, including requirements for membership, chapter information including links, and education. Some have discussion boards. Many have a private, "members only" section.

American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers is for appraisers specializing in agricultural appraising and farm managers.

American Society of Appraisers is the largest multi-discipline appraisal association, serving real estate, personal property, machinery and equipment, and other disciplines as well as business valuation. One public discussion board, fairly active, with a wide variety of topics, from Diringold tableware to Abraham Lincoln signatures to USPAP.

Appraisal Institute of Canada - the primary appraisal association in Canada, in many ways similar to the Appraisal Institute in the U.S.

International Association of Assessing Officers - "the" association for tax assessment appraisers.

International Right of Way Association - for everyone involved with public agency work - appraisers, right of way agents, etc.

Korea Association of Property Appraisers - This link is just FYI...it is in Korean!

National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers - very active on the East Coast and Midwest. Some chapters in other parts of the country. Active discussion boards.

National Association of Master Appraisers -  Active in the Southeast. Has an affiliated school, Lincoln Graduate Center.

National Association of Real Estate Appraisers - located in Minnesota, formerly in Scottsdale, AZ

National Association of Review Appraisers and Mortgage Underwriters - Has some useful information for review appraisers.

National Association of Realtors - Appraisal Section  If you're an NAR member, you can register at www.onerealtorplace.com and get access to the discussion board with some postings plus access to NAR's news section. If you're not a member, the site does have some free information.

National Residential Apparaisers Institute - www.rfpi.com/nrai.htm

Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors - one of my favorite appraisal Web sites. 90,000 members all over the world.
