No, your last week's email newsletter didn't get lost in cyberspace! You're
getting it a week late. e-appraiser's "email guru", Rick Bestany was on his
honeymoon so it didn't get sent out. I guess that's a pretty good excuse!!!

>>>>>>>>>>>>> LOAN APPS UP/DOWN <<<<<<<<<<<<<
The Mortgage Bankers Association of America (MBA) released its Weekly
Mortgage Application Survey results last Wednesday, reporting that the
index of mortgage loan applications for the week ending September 15
decreased 1.9 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from the previous
week. On an unadjusted basis, the application index increased 21.3 percent,
and was up 17.6 percent compared to the same week a year earlier.

>>>>>>>>>>>>> A FEW GOOD LINKS AND TIPS FROM REAMUG <<<<<<<<<<<<<
A few good links and tips from REAMUG I was at a REAMUG meeting in Oakland,
CA this weekend and got lots of good tips (plus 10 hours of recert credit
for $35). The next meeting is in the Spring in San Diego. - The "best buy"
on hard drives is 45GB (My antique 1-2 year old computers only have 8GB).
What if you have an older computer with the "8GB limit"? You can upgrade
your BIOS software or replace the BIOS. You also must have Windows 95
Release B or higher, or Windows 98. - The "sweet spot," or best buy for
purchasing now, is two steps down from the fastest, or 700 - 800 MHz. - CD
R/W disks can be hard to read on any other computer, so Read-only discs are
often the best to use for archiving. - Finally get rid of all that junk on
your computer (temporary files) with cleanall.bat at
http://www.langa.com/cleanup_bat.htm  AOL Users: <a
href=http://www.langa.com/cleanup_bat.htm> Click Here</a> -
http://www.palmgear.com  for all kinds of Palm stuff. AOL Users: <a
href=http://www.palmgear.com> Click Here</a> - http://www.sco.ca.gov - for
California (and former California) residents. See if you are listed on the
unclaimed property list. You may be surprised! I wasn't listed... oh
well... AOL Users: <a href=http://www.sco.ca.gov> Click Here</a>

Full details in the subscription Appraisal Today newsletter, of course...

The REAMUG meeting wasn't too expensive this time. I only "have to have" an
office scanner, Palm Pilot, and CD R/W. Under $1,000!! For more info on
REAMUG, go to http://www.appraisaltoday.com/reamug.htm  . Yes, that
"grandmother-looking" photo is of Mary Dum, the "master guru" of appraisal
computing. One of computer seminar attendees said he expected a
20-something guy as the instructor - and was blown away by Mary's
expertise. AOL Users: <a href=http://www.appraisaltoday.com/reamug.htm>

>>>>>>>>>>>>> LOANS UP/DOWN <<<<<<<<<<<<<
The Mortgage Bankers Association of America (MBA) released its Weekly
Mortgage Application Survey results last Wednesday, reporting that the
index of mortgage loan applications for the week ending August 25 increased
1.7 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from the previous week. On an
unadjusted basis, the application index decreased 0.1 percent, and was up
0.2 percent compared to the same week a year earlier.

>>>>>>>>>>>>> A FEW TIME TIPS <<<<<<<<<<<<<
Appraisers sell their time. Time wasted is money lost.

Here's a few tips: - Cut down on telephone tag. When leaving a message,
state when you will be available to receive a return phone call. For
example, "I will be in the office from 9AM to noon on Wednesday." - One of
the greatest time savers is using the word "NO". The inability to use this
word leads to taking on too much work, procrastinating on more difficult
assignments, and failure to do more important tasks such as developing new
business, or attend your daughter's soccer game (even more important).

I have three productivity articles for appraisers, - "How to increase
productivity without spending any money!" at

>>>>>>>>> COLLIERS REPORT ON WESTERN MARKETS <<<<<<<<<

United States is available at http://www.colliers.com/colliersperspective
AOL Users: <a href=http://www.colliers.com/colliersperspective> Click
Here</a>

The report is in several PDF files.

A few tidbits from the summary:

Technology continues to shape the office and industrial markets of the
Western US. Internet, E-commerce, telecommunications, dotcom, venture
capitalist, hardware and software companies continue to drive the economy
and have had a large impact on the commercial real estate markets.

All office markets of the Western US are expected to remain strong and
projected growth in demand should continue to outpace supply. Vacancy rates
are low in almost all markets and virtually nonexistent in the technology
driven office markets of the San Francisco Bay Area, Puget Sound Region and
West Los Angeles.

The industrial markets are continuing to strengthen during 2000. Demand for
industrial space is running at record levels for the western region.
Technology and distribution are driving demand and vacancy rates are below
10% in all markets.

>>>>>>>>>>>>> HOUSING STATS <<<<<<<<<<<<<
Some interesting stats from the Meyers Group (Housing research group) -
Housing Market Key Indicator Alert - Sept. 1

Employment Growth Slows, But Remains Strong Enough To Keep Housing Demand
Strong The labor market is softening. Total non-farm employment fell by
105,000 in August mainly due to a further decline of 158,000 temporary
census workers and the Verizon Wireless strike.
