Appraisal Today E-mails -
Who's Who and What's What

A brief history - June 1994 to May, 2000
Weekly emails have been sent out by our publisher, Ann O'Rourke, since June, 1994, starting with only four appraisers. The first email was about FIRREA. The list was expanded to include appraisers on CompuServe, to let them know about the topics of the weekly live chats (discontinued after several years).

Over the years, the list expanded to about 700 appraisers by the end of 1998. In January, 1999, this web site was launched and the "in house" list has grown to over 3,000 appraisers.

In mid - September, 1999, a company called e-appraiser, owned by Joan Trice, SRA, started sending out the weekly emails to the Appraisal Today list  and her email list for a total of over 40,000 appraisers.

Frequently asked questions (answered by Ann O'Rourke)

Why am I getting all these emails?
If you are on the e-appraiser list, you are getting emails three to four times a week, even if you previously only only received the weekly Appraisal Today e-news on Mondays. (see below).

Should I register here if I already get your emails from e-appraiser?
I have a separate list and send emails just to my list and not to e-appraiser periodically, particularly for hot news.

How do I get rid of duplicate emails?
Emails are sent out by address, not by your name by e-appraiser. If you have more than one email address in the system, you will receive duplicate emails. To remove the ones you don't want read the instructions at the bottom of each email.

Note: Sometimes duplicate emails are sent out because there are computer/Internet problems. To be sure everyone receives the emails, they are sent out twice.

What is e-appraiser?

  • e-appraiser sends out my emails and the return address has e-appraiser. Our only business connection is that e-appraiser sends out my emails and handles the e-mail advertising.
  • e-appraiser is a web site, owned by Joan Trice, SRA. It is an online appraiser directory and sends out four emails a week.
  • e-appraiser sends out four weekly emails for -  Appraisal Today on Wednesday,. e-appraiser on Monday, Rick's tips on Tuesday, and periodically sends out Web Guru (Michael Cartwright). To sign up for the other emails, go to www.e-appraiser.net .
  • Alterra is the name of the company which publishes e-appraiser.

What is Appraisal Today e-news?
Appraisal Today is part of Real Estate Communication Resources, a publishing and seminar company owned by Ann O'Rourke. For more information, go to About Us

Why did you switch to e-appraiser?

  • Money - After working for free for five years, I am now able to take email ads,
  • Wider distribution - my emails went from 3,000 appraisers to 40,000 appraisers within 6 months!
  • e-appraiser manages sending out all the emails and has a dedicated e-mail server

What's the difference between the e-appraiser list and your list?

  • I send out periodic special emails just to my list, and not to e-appraiser, such as hot news and business tips. To get these emails, you must subscribe to my list.
  • My Appraisal Today list is "opt in" - all the appraisers on the list have requested to be on the list (except for a few CompuServe people from the "old days").
  • At present, the e-appraiser list is almost 100% from their appraiser directory. They recently added a page on their web site for new subscribers. Everyone on the e-appraiser lists receives emails Monday through Thursday.
  • The lists are separate, but both receive the weekly Appraisal Today e-news.

How many emails does e-appraiser send out?

E-appraiser sends out four weekly emails. The email newsletters are:

  • MONDAY - e-appraiser Dispatch - What is happening on the e-appraiser  site…..new features, new products, upcoming Guest Speakers, etc., sent to
    •  e-appraiser subscribers only
  • TUESDAY Web Guru - (Not sent out each week) Michael Cartwright, the Duke of URL, will be directing you to some pretty cool sites that he tracks down. He will also keep you informed on how to best make use of the Internet to make you a more efficient appraiser, save time and money, and to make you a smarter appraiser.
    • e-appraiser subscribers only
  • WEDNESDAY Appraisal Today e-news - by Ann O'Rourke, sent to
    • Both e-appraiser subscribers and Appraisal Today subscribers
  • THURSDAY From Rick’s Desk - Rick Bestany - computer tips from e-appraisers tech guy, sent to
    • e-appraiser subscribers only

How do I sign up  the e-appraiser-only daily emails?
Go to www.e-appraiser.net and click on the Newsletter link on the home page. Don't worry about duplicate sign-ups as the email software automatically removes any duplicate email addresses.

What's the difference between registration on this web site and the e-appraiser web site?
I have my own email list, which I maintain. I send out periodic emails, which don't go to those who are only on the e-appraiser list.

How do I stop unsubscribe and stop getting emails?
Note: You must unsubscribe from each weekly email.

  • Open the email from each email you want to cancel
  • Read the instructions at the bottom of each email.

What if you can't stop the emails, even after trying to cancel them, or it is too much of a hassle to cancel?
Send a request to be removed to listmanager@alterra.com or to me at ann@appraisaltoday.com
