Who publishes this Web site? The publisher/Webmaster is Ann O'Rourke, MAI, SRA, a practicing fee appraiser in Alameda California. She has been appraising for almost 20 years. For the past 7 years, she has also been publishing appraisal newsletters, speaking, and giving seminars to appraisers all over the country. For more information, go to About Us. To contact us, see the bottom of each page. Is this site just for real estate appraisers? The site is primarily for real estate appraisers. Much of the information is useful for users of appraisal services, such as lenders. If you want information on non-real estate appraisals, contact the American Society of Appraisers, the best source of information. What's the purpose of this site? I have designed this site as a supplement to my newsletter, Appraisal Today. But, more important, this Web sites lets me communicate very inexpensively with all the appraisers in the world, providing the latest news and information important to appraisers. I will put all the Web sites I know about of interest to appraisers here, so we all don't have to hassle with mis-spelled Web site addresses, plus fill up our bookmark and favorites files with long lists of unclassified Web addresses! I have some good links and news I'd like to see on this site. What do I do? I'm always looking for good links (including a link to your own Web site) and news of interest to appraisers. Just send an email to me at ann@appraisaltoday.com! What about link exchanges? See above! Where is your links page? Instead of one long page with links, I have included links in the topic they relate to. For example, in the Internet tips section, I have a category called E-mail lists, I have included a list of links to e-mail lists sites plus information on appraisers' email lists. I also include links within articles. What is this site selling? I'm an active real estate appraiser and also publish a newsletter, books, and audiotapes for appraisers. You can get information on the Our products page. For now, the site is free. I plan on having a newsletter subscriber-only section in the future, which will have all the articles from my publication. What's on this site? Information, including links, on this site comes primarily from my subscription newsletter, Appraisal Today, in publication since June, 1992. What kind of topics do I write about? Both appraisal business "how to" (including how to use the Internet) and news. As the only appraisal reporter, I publish news and important information weeks and sometimes months before other publications. Now that I am on the Internet, information can be sent instantaneously. Why are there so few graphics on this site? One of my favorite "pet peeves" about the Web are the long download times, particularly on the home page. I decided to copy Microsoft, Netscape, and other popular sites that use very few graphics. Also, this site is primarily information or content-based. Viewers come here for the information, so graphics aren't very necessary. I particularly dislike frames. Of course, I plan on including some "fun" images using my digital camera, such as my company photos! How to find out when this site has new information. This site will be updated regularly, so be sure to sign up for my free weekly email newsletter to find out about new stuff on the site, plus the hottest appraisal news. Each page has a date stamp, telling you when it was last updated. |
